Pray for Mary by Dan Nelson

Prayers for Mary began last year

As friends and family began to hear

It was uPray for Marynexpected, none understood

Lives would have been traded if only they could

The prognosis was clear, nothing could be done

Who could have known that day a movement had begun

The medical team at the hospital did their very best

With recurring bouts of somber news, faith was put to test

Yet Mary was an inspiration from the very start

She was quick to bless each visitor, genuinely from her heart.

I hope you have a nice life she said: Thank you for coming to see me,

Even stuck in a hospital bed, Her face was always beaming

Colored pictures from all of her friends were hung up on the wall

She had donut pillows, stuffed animals, and toys, and games just down the hall

Mom and Dad, and two loving sisters, were always there at Mary’s side

Family and friends in ardent support, they came, they hugged, and they cried

There was something quite uncommon happening from the very first day

The Prince of Peace was present in an unexplainable way

Even a nurse in the children’s cancer ward called it quite unique

That a family would experience comfort; facing reports immensely bleak

Pray for Mary, the call came out, although some might have thought it odd

Pray for Mary, if you believe, all things are possible with God

Schedules were stalled, churches were called, the beckon went far and wide

T-shirts with her name and verse, uncharted love, the Scriptures our guide

Her own hashtag and Facebook with updates via social media post

Signs were hung, old and young, friends from coast to coast

Pray for Mary! Pray for Mary! Pray for a miracle today!

There is little hope on earth to claim – help from heaven is the only way!

A community struck with shock put their lives on pause

Hearts breaking, confidence shaking, people rally to the cause

A fund-raiser, a mega yard sale, amazing generosity

A new car for the appointments, practical help and hospitality

Make A Wish – local news – a playhouse to have some fun

Her own bed in her own home, her own grass on which to run

Treatments and trials, ups and downs, outward symptoms on a downward slope

Pray for Mary! Pray for Mary! Jesus is our only hope!

Responses come from around the world, both near and far away

Faith is born in blemished souls as refined gold in jars of clay

Lives that were before distracted, with pursuits of accumulation of stuff

Now on their knees in prayer, learning God’s grace is more than enough

A new way of living, not taking but giving, awareness as citizens of heaven

Forgiveness of sins, new life begins, the Holy Spirit removing the leaven

Some back to church where they belong, some reading their Bibles again

Forever changed, salvation exchanged for a life different from where it had been

Pray for Mary! Pray for Mary! The call was increasingly loud

On our knees, asking “Lord please!”, prostrate and humble, hearts bowed

Christ’s victory is won; Your will be done; We know that God has a plan

Nothing held back in faith and in fasting in asking for what ONLY God can

Hope from God’s Word sustaining our hearts,

Relying on comfort only God’s Spirit imparts

Postings from parents become a lifeline to connect

Learning to wait on the Lord, not sure what to expect

We are reminded God is always faithful when we are faithless and frail

God’s promise and purpose will be fulfilled: His Word will never fail

Pray for Mary! Pray for Mary! Our answer is coming soon.

A spiritual symphony of harmony: each instrument now in tune.

From her little room in upper Ojai, she has an audience around the earth

This life is short for all of us; its eternal treasure that has real worth

Pray for Mary! Pray for Mary! But the miracle that came seemed strange

When God’s people stopped to pray for Mary, our hearts began to change

We waited and now we know, we believed with no regrets

The seed in our hearts God used Mary to sow, and the fruit it now begets

I have never seen such great faith, such room for God to move

If God had wanted to raise her up here He would have, nothing for Him to prove

Mary is with Jesus now, she is happy and she is healed.

We have our answer, Jesus wanted her with Him: His will is now revealed.

Give Jesus a kiss, then kiss him again: Give Him one for me

Enjoy yourself Mary, have fun with Jesus, your no longer sick, you are free.

I think of you Mary at every butterfly, at each rainbow, sunrise, and smile.

In seven years you made a difference Mary that will last for quite a while.

The Savior is coming soon – and you will be at His side – resurrected forever more.

And we will see you again thanks to Jesus, Who is the Truth, the Way, and the Door.
